Training Program on PSEA-H for Forever Sabah and LEAP Spiral in Sabah

On September 4, 2025, Forever Sabah hosted a transformative full-day training at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) Kota Kinabalu. Global Shepherds Berhad was invited to deliver the training with the focus on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Sexual Harassment (PSEA-H). The event brought together 29 diverse participants which includes of staff and full-time contractors of Forever Sabah and Leap Spiral that are committed to deepening their understanding of SEA-H and strengthening organizational and community responses across Sabah.

Centering Safety, Dignity, and Accountability

The training aimed to build capacity among staff and stakeholders to prevent and respond to SEA-H, with a strong emphasis on prevention and protection. Participants explored the definitions, types, and impacts of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment not just as violations of rights, but as systemic harms that compromise safety, dignity, and trust.
Session 1 laid the foundation by unpacking the meaning of SEA-H. Reflections from participants revealed a shared understanding: SEA-H is a violation of human rights, abuse of power, and a breach of personal boundaries. Many voiced the importance of recognizing symptoms of abuse, shifting away from victim-blaming, and affirming that “It’s okay to say no.”

Understanding Root Causes and Risk

Session 2 delved into the root causes of SEA-H in Sabah, encouraging participants to examine power dynamics, cultural norms, and institutional gaps. Through risk assessment exercises and discussions on reporting mechanisms, program participants were empowered to identify vulnerabilities and advocate for safer environments.

Participants committed to speaking up, listening actively, and supporting survivors. One powerful takeaway: “Inaction enables SEA-H.” The session emphasized that everyone especially leaders has a role in fostering accountability and modeling respectful behaviour.

Institutionalizing Prevention and Good Practices

The afternoon session focused on preventative measures, drawing from international standards such as the IASC Six Core Principles. Participants reviewed organizational good practices and assessed their alignment with UN monitoring checklists. The emphasis was on practical tools: clear boundaries, consent protocols, and survivor-centered reporting channels.
Commitments from participants were heartfelt and action-oriented. Many pledged to mentor others, report misconduct, and ensure safe workspaces. The phrase “Do No Harm” echoed throughout, reminding everyone of the ethical imperative to protect and uplift.

A Collective Commitment to Change

The training concluded with a post-assessment, group reflection, and closing remarks. Participants left with renewed clarity, courage, and commitment. The day was not just about learning, but most importantly, it was about building brave spaces where safety, respect, and dignity are non-negotiable.
As one participant wrote, “I will speak up when I see SEA-H happening.” That promise, shared by many, marks a powerful step toward a more just and accountable future in Sabah.

With Gratitude

Global Shepherds extends heartfelt thanks to Forever Sabah for the kind invitation to facilitate this important training. It was an honor to collaborate in creating a space for reflection, learning, and collective action. We deeply appreciate Forever Sabah’s commitment to ethical practice and community empowerment, and we look forward to continued partnership in advancing SEAH prevention across the region.
