We Recognize Refugees

Global Shepherds organized some activities last weekend in conjunction with World Refugee Day. The sessions started with some ice-breaker games, followed by a video presentation. It was geared towards a sharing session, in which participants were encouraged to speak out about their life here in Malaysia – problems faced, how Covid-19 and MCO has affected them, their hopes and dreams.

They were most excited when asked to describe their feelings, either by writing it down or in pictures. This exercise of putting their hopes and dreams down on paper gave them renewed fervour to continue fighting. They were happy and excited, and grateful for the activity as it ….

…“made me forget about my problems for a while”….

…“I could visualise and I begin to remember why I left my country, and what I hope to achieve”….

The messages were similar. The underlying sentiment is the hope of one day going back to their home country and helping their fellow countrymen; to be a voice for the voiceless, to fight for the dignity of the oppressed, to give back to the community.
