There’s something powerful about women coming together—not just to celebrate, but to be seen, heard, and uplifted. That spirit filled the Global Shepherds Keningau Office on March 23rd, 2025, as Indonesian and Filipino migrant women gathered to honour one another on International Women’s Day.
“It wasn’t just an event—it was a circle of strength, shared stories, and mutual support.”
Organized by Global Shepherds Berhad in collaboration with community leaders, this year’s theme— “For Women & Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment”—set the tone for an afternoon of connection and empowerment.
The day began with a short welcome remark, and introduction by Global Shepherds followed by a simple lunch together. After an icebreaker, the heart of the event began. Stories of strength and resilience shared by women who have become pillars in their communities. The women shared their personal stories and spoke about others who had left a lasting impact on their lives. They emphasized the crucial roles women play in families, education, and communities. The stories included the founding of learning centres for migrant children, successful literacy initiatives, and the challenges women face while overcoming poverty.
Creative Expressions from the Heart
During the second half of the event, women turned their stories into art, creating pieces that symbolized their pride, gratitude, and hopes for the future. These creative expressions served as powerful reminders of the vital roles’ women play not just in their homes, but across society.
As a fitting end to mark the day, the women shared expressed their thoughts and over and over, the same word echoed around the room:
“WANITA HEBAT” — Women are remarkable.
